General purpose three phase converters are for use with any type of three phase equipment that is not classified as CNC or voltage sensitive. This includes standard motor loads, resistive (heating), and inductive loads (such as UPS's). Some examples of equipment that can use general purpose three phase converters are:

What is a Three Phase Converter?
A Three Phase Converter is a device that produces three phase electrical power from a single phase power source. It is generally used when bringing in three phase power from the utility is cost prohibitive, or in some cases, not even an option.
A TEMCo Three Phase Converter can be used with any three phase application. It can run multiple loads, resistive and inductive loads, cnc loads, and motor and resistive combination loads, so long as the three phase converter used is of high enough capacity output.
You can always use a TEMCo Rotary Phase Converter that supplies more power than you need now, but one that does not supply enough kW power output will not work.

Motor Loads
- What is the HP of the largest 3-phase motor you will need to start?
- Is it Easy, Medium or Hard to start? (Click here to determine start load)
- Find the appropriate column and motor HP. (Easy, Medium or Hard)
- Consider your Max Load. (Total HP of motors that will be run, but not started at the same time.)
- Chose the Three Phase Converter size that accommodates the power you need by following the horizontal line to the left.
Resistive/Inductive Loads
Some examples of common resistive loads are heaters, EDM machines, kilns, and ovens. Examples of inductive type loads are power supplies, welders, and battery chargers.
To size a three phase converter for your resistive/inductive equipment, add your total load amps, and use the R/I* column to select the appropriate model.

Quiet Operation

All of our CNC Phase Converters have been designed with noise reduction in mind. All TEMCo converters, regardless of series or model, operate at 63dB @ 10ft. To put that into perspective, it's about as loud as normal conversation.
It is recommended that our CNC Phase Converters not be directly bolted to the floor. The proper way to mount CNC Phase Converters is with the use of a rubber vibration isolator. Not only will this reduce the noise generated from vibration, it will also prolong the life of the phase converter.

Three Phase Converter Installation
Installation is a breeze with a TEMCo Three Phase Converter. Save time and money with a quick installation. All TEMCo Three Phase Converters use heavy duty terminal blocks for the input and output connections. No more struggling to make connections in that tiny motor junction box!
Just bring your two wires + ground from your supply panel into the input terminal block, and run your three wires + ground from the output terminal block to your three phase panel or fused disconnect.
Once the conduit and wires have been run, actual installation of the three phase converter takes just a matter of minutes.
